Nepal to open Nehru Cup 2012 campaign against Maldives

Nepal will take Maldives on 23 August 2012 on its opening match of their Nehru Cup 2012 campaign at Jawaharalal Nehru Stadium. On the opening day defending champions India will kick-off against Syria, the runners-up in the last two editions, on August 22 on the same venue.

Besides the hosts India, Syria, Cameroon, Nepal and Maldives will be be a part of the five-team tournament. Each Team will play each other once in the Group League matches with the top two, the Group Winners and the Group Runners-up advancing to the final.

The 12-day-long football championship will witness each team taking on the other four in the round-robin league, with top two teams moving to the final, to be played on September 2, an AIFF release stated.

India had won the last two editions of the Nehru Cup in 2007 and beating Syria in the final on both occasions.

Nepali footballers started to prepare their camp at the AFNA technical centre Chyasal.
