SAFF Championship 2013: Nepal defeats India for the first time in their history, Pakistan is eliminated despite winning against Bangladesh

Nepal is playing to their full potential in the ongoing SAFF Championship 2013 and proving they are the team to beat in this tournament after defeating defending champion India 2-1.
Nepal played a complete dominating game against the defending champion while India sat back and tried to counter attack with very little success. With a thunderous crowd of more than 18,000 behind them Nepali players gave their everything to delight the crowd. The first half of the match was a little bit dull one as Nepal dominated both the ball possession yet did very little to score the match. On the other hand India played second fiddle as the first half of the match finished goalless. Nepal took the lead int he 69th minute of the match as Anil Gurung scored. Jumanu Rai doubled the lead in the 80th minute of the match. Robin Singh pulled one back in the 91st minute of the match but it was too little to late. Nepal won the match 2-1 and claimed all 3 points to top the Group A. India too also got qualified due to better head to head record against Pakistan despite its defeat.
In another match played at Halchok, Pakistan managed to defeat Bangladesh 2-1. It was Bangladesh who took the lead through Hasan Ameli in the 31st minute of the match. Samar Ishaq pulled one back 5 minutes later. Kaleem Ullah scored late in the injury time to claim all 3 points for Pakistan. But Pakistan yet got eliminated as they had lost to India on head to head result.
SAFF Championship 2013: Ali Asfaq hattrick destroys 10 man Bhutan, Afghanistan toils hard to beat Srilanka

In the day's first match, Srilanka showed an improved performance and at one time were leading Afghanistan. But eventually Afghanistan came out winners 3-1.
Mohamed Fazal scored the first goal for Srilanka in the 36th minute of the match. Mohamad Rafi pulled one back as his corner kick went straight in beating Srilankan GK Suranda Bandara in the 63rd minute of the match. Haroon Fakhruddin scored for Afghanistan in the 72nd minute before Hashmatullah Mohammad Jan sealed the win in the 86th minute of the match. Earlier, Afghanistan also missed a spotkick awarded.
In second match between Maldives and Bhutan, Maldives came out winners after it thrashed 8-2 scoring 6 goals in the second half alone. Ali Fasar opened the scoring in the 15th minute of the match But much to the surprise of Maldives' players skipper Pasang pulled back the equalizer in the 25th minute of the match. Chencho Gyeltshen scored in the 35th minute of the match to give Bhutan 2-1 lead in the match. But fate had other idea as Bhutan's first choice goalkeeper received a straight sending off late in the first half. The resultant freekick was converted into goal by Mohammed Umair.
Maldives' skipper Ali Ashfaq then started to weave his magic as he scored 4 goals in the 48th,51st,58th and 75th minute of the match. Ali Fashir scored his second in the 69th minute of the match. Ali Umar also got his name in the scoresheet in the heavy win for Maldives.

Bimal Gharti Magar sends raptures into the Nepali crowd with an Extra-time equaliser and sends himself into records as the YOUNGEST SAFF goal scorer and also of NEPALESE FOOTBALL history.
Jagjeet Shrestha was on bench as Nepalese coach Jack Stefanowski gave him rest. So, Nepal had two striker from the start to show the attacking intent in the game with Jumanu Rai and Anil Gurung in the role.

Maldives overpowers helpless Srilankans and Afghanistan beat 3 - 0 Bhutan.
Ali Ashfaq man of the match scored six goals past Srilanka to register a comprehensive 10 - 0 margin in the match.
Captain of Maldives Ali Ashfaq single handedly won the tie for his nation. His goal scoring spree started in 21',45+1', 51', 57', 53'& 86'
The 10 - 0 win is the biggest goal scoring margin by any country in SAFF Championship, the earlier record was 9 - 1 by Maldives against Afghanistan in 2005 SAFF Championship.
Other goal scorer were Ali Umar 85', Ali Fashir 83', Hassan Adhuham 75' and Asadullah Abdhulla 5'.
In the earlier game played at Halchok Stadium between Afghanistan and Bhutan, goals from Haroon Fakhruddin 37', Mustafa Hadia 75' and Hashmatullah Md Jan 87' was enough to secure win for the Afghanistan national side.
Afghanistan won but it was a tightly contested match affair. Afghanistan has few more European based players in the rooster coming up so they will be giving a good fight against Srilankan side. They missed a lot of chances otherwise the margin could have been greater than 3, Afghanistan Coach Yousef Kargar told the media.
