India booked a place in the final of the SAFF Championship 2013 despite not playing to their best so far. Yet in the semifinals they were not the best team and got the goal that sealed their place in the finals. Arnab Mondol scored the only goal of the match late in the match in the 86th minute of the match.
India were playing without their skipper Sunil chettri as he was suspended for the match. Ali Ashfaq also returned for Maldives who was rested in their final group match. But he was well handled by Indian defense despite creating troubles for them at times. On the other hand, India couldn't attack regularly to sealed the match which was eventually sealed in the final few minutes of the match.
India will now take on Afghanistan in the final which is a repeat of the previous final and won by India in the year 2011.
Maldives coach Urbyani lamented that his side was harshly treated by the match referee as his side was denied two clear penalties. He also mentioned that his best player Ali Ashfaq was unfairrly treated by referees as he was twice booked in the tournament for diving. But he mentioned that he was quite happy with his player's performance.
On the other hand, Indian coach Koevermans was proud of his boys performance. He further stressed that his team is just 90 minutes away from defending their title.
