NPC stunned by Machhindra while Saraswoti held by Munal Club
Defending champion Nepal Police Club were stunned by Patan based outfit Machhindra FC 2-1 at the Dasharath Stadium in the ongoing Gurkha Cup 2070. In the process Machindra FC became the first team to reach the quarter-finals of the ongoing Gurkha Cup.
Sushil KC scored in the 16th minute off Bishal Rai's rebounded shot off the goal post to give Machhindra upper hand in the match early on. Bishal Rai doubled the Machhindra's lead in the 31st minute of the match as he scored from a header. Jumanu Rai cut back the deficit in the 42nd minute of the match as the score remained 2-1 in favor of Machhindra. NPC players showed a much improved performance in the second half of the match but Machindra didn't concede any more goals as they grabbed 2-1 victory over one of the title contenders. In the process they collected all 3 points and has 6 points which ensured they qualified for the next round.
In another match played, Munal Club from Jhapa held A division outfit Saraswati Youth Club to a 2-2 draw in another Group A match of the Gurkha Cup 2070.Tanka Lama scored in the 26th minute to give an early lead to Saraswati as he pounched on a rebound off Krishna Gopal Shrestha's shot which was saved by Munal goalie Min Basnet.Krishna Gopal Shrestha also registered his name in the score-sheet in the 31st minute of the match to give 2-0 lead to Saraswoti. But the match had some drama left which was unfolded late in the second half as Bibek Lingden scored the first goal for Munal Clubin the 73rd minute. Indra Jung Lingden leveled the scored 2-2 in the 74th minute of the match. Both the teams had to shared a point each from the match at the end of the match.
