BIAAG Cup: Banke, Taplejung bag wins

Sharma got herself in the score-sheet in the 22nd minute and Nirmala Upadhaya confirmed Banke all three points from the game, scoring in the 50th minute.

In the second match of the day, Taplejung downed Kanchanpur 2-1 with goals from Kopila Phalang and Bimala Sherpa. Phalang socred in the 40th minute, while Sherpa scored in the 62nd minute. For the other side, Priyanka Rana scored in the 64th minute.

Altogether 12 teams from as many districts affiliated with the ANFA are competing in the tournament organized by ANFA and Plan International on the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child.

BIAAG Cup: Tamang guides Kathmandu to win

A brace from Laxmi Tamang (B) gave Kathmandu a 2-0 win over Bara in the U-17 Because I am a Girl Football (BIAAG) Cup being held at Chandranighapur on Sunday.

Laxmi Chaudhary scored both the goals in the first half, with the first coming in the 10th minute and the second in the 25th minute. The win moved Kathmandu atop the Group 'D' standings.

Likewise, in the second match of the day, Jhapa and Sarlahi played a 2-2 draw.

Dichhya Chaudhary opened scoring for Jhapa in the 25th minute, but Sangeeta Ghising cancelled the lead in the 31st minute.

Jhapa immediately retained the lead in the 32nd minute through Ranjana Chaudhary. Menuka Ale salvaged a point for Sarlahi in 63rd minute.

The tournament is being organized by the All Nepal Football Association with support from Plan International Nepal on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child. A total of 12 teams from as many districts are competing in the tournament.

Morang will take on Banke, while Taplejung will compete against Kanchanpur on Monday.

BIAAG Cup: Taplejung, Rautahat make winning starts

makwanpur vs ta 1413042173Taplejung and home team Rautahat made winning starts on the first day of the U-17 'Because I am a Girl' Cup Football Tournament, jointly organized by the All Nepal Football Association and Plan International Nepal on the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child.

In the match played at Chandanighapur on Saturday, Home Team Rautahat beat Morang 3-1, while Taplejug hammered Makwanpur 9-0.

Alisa Jimba opened the scoring for Rautahat with as early as in the fourth. But the home team's joy was short-lived as Saru Limbu cancelled the lead. Rauthat came back strongly in the second half as goal from Anjali Yonjon and Mithila Kunwar sealed the win for the home team.

Rautahat have their second Group A match against Banke on Oct. 15.

In the second match of the day, Taplejung hammered Makwanpur 9-0 with hat-trick from Kopila Tamang and Bimala Sherpa. Taplejung made their intention clear in the first half itself, scoring five goals. Kopila found the back of the net in the 18th, 64th, and 67th minutes, while Bimala found the target in the 16th, 21st, and 27th minutes. Anisha Thebe and Shrijana Shrestha were also in the score-sheet.

The tournament was opened by Mattias Bryneson , the country director of Plan International Nepal. Opening the tournament, Bryneson said that the tournament, organized on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child, is a collective effort aimed at empowering girls and making sure we all invest more for the girls. General secretary of ANFA, Dhirendra Pradhan and Chair of Women's Football, Kalpana Piya Shrestha, were present in the opening ceremony.

A total of 12 teams from as many district are participating in the tournament that will run till Oct. 19. Sunday's fixture has Group-C teams Jhapa Vs Sarlahi and Group D teams Kathmandu Vs Bara.

The All Nepal Football Association and Plan International Nepal have teamed up to organize a U-17 girls' competition on the occasion of International Day of the Girl Child. The tournament entitled BIAAG (Because I am a Girl) Cup U-17 Football will be held in Chandranighapur-4 of Rahuthat district from Oct. 11 to 19.

Girls belonging to U-17 age groups from 12 district affiliated with ANFA — Jhapa, Morang, Taplejung, Sarlahi, Rahuthat, Makawanpur, Bara, Nawalparasi, Banke, Kailali, Kanchanpur and Kathmandu -- will participate in the tournament. The teams will compete in two groups on league-cum-knock-out basis; winners from each group will play the semifinals and finals of the tournament. The winning team will be declared as "BIAAG Champion 2014".

ANFA Vice President Lalit Krishna Shrestha said that ANFA had chosen the 12 districts because five of the participating districts fall in the working area of Plan.

" This contract is just for a year but Plan will extend it depending on the success of this tourament. The tournament will help us develop women's football in the country," he said.

The best team and players of the BIAAG Cup will get various opportunities in the different age-group football competitions organized by ANFA next year. We are confident that the best players will demonstrate their skills in the tournaments organized by Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The expected expenditures for the tournament is Rs. 2,433,800(Rs. Two million four hundred thirty three thousand and eight hundred) and Plan International has provided financial assistance of Rs. 1,500,000 (Rs. 1.5 million).
