Indian most prolific strikers duo Sunil Chhetri and Jeje Lalpekhula are released by their respective clubs Mohun Bagan and Pune FC respectively  for their week long trials with Scottish giants Rangers. Both strikers didn’t have a release clause in their contract but their agent Yogesh Joshee somehow managed to convince the clubs to release them.

“The agent was in constant touch with us. As the trials are not clashing with the I-League matches we decided to release him,” said Chirag Tanna, Head of Operations, Pune FC.

It’s a turnaround from their earlier stand of not releasing them. The duo were supposed to be part of the national camp from today and play in the international friendly against Zambia on 29th November. However, they will now miss both the camp and the game. But they are expected to be back in time for the SAFF Cup that kicks off from December 2. The pair will board a flight to Glasgow and trial with the club from Saturday and return to India on 1st December.

Even national team coach Savio Medeira understood the importance of the trials and decided to leave them for trials. “They will be leaving for glasgow tonight. It is an important thing for them. Both will be reporting back to the national camp on December 1,” said Medeira.
