Sept. 4- Nepal Army cruised into the semi-finals of the ANFA Cup Football Tournament following their comfortable 2-0 win over Nepal Police at the Dashrath Stadium on Thursday.
A goal in either side of the half by Navawug Shrestha in the 32nd minute and Deepak Gurung in the 72nd confirmed Army a berth in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Nepal Army will play the winner of the match between CMG Sankata Club and visiting team Morang, who have a match on Friday.
From the early turnout of things, it looked as if Nepal Police would be the eventual winners. They controlled the early procession, with Ajit Bhandari going close to scoring in the 5th minute when his whistled past the crossbar.
Nepal Army showed their intention for the win in the 17th minute through Navayug Shrestha who would later turn out to be the scorer for Army.
Shrestha was fed with just the keeper to beat but failed to control the ball.
He made up for his mistakes in the 32nd minute giving his team the 1-0 lead.
Nepal Army's winning goal came in the 72 minute from Deepak Gurung, who made his debut in this match. Gurung was in thick of things few minute earlier he scored when his shot flew past the cross bar.
For Police Bharat Shah and Jumanu Rai came to scoring in the 61st and 75th minutes respectively. Jumanu should have done much better when he had just the keeper to beat, but he spoilt the momentum trying to get past the keeper, which allowed the defenders to clear the ball away.
