Birat Gold Cup 2069: Sankata finally ends it's trophy drought after 15 years defeating APF in the Birat Gold Cup Finals

Sankata FC wins Birat Gold Cup to win a major trophy after 15 years. With the win Sankata FC won NRs 3,25,000 and trophy.
In the final between APF and Sankata, Cameroonian Abba’s one goal was enough to hand the trophy to the Sankata FC. The goal came in 29th minute with a precise header into the top corner. The APF Goalkeeper was a mere spectator.
Abba was a substitute early into the game as another African player Aaibau got injured and had to be replaced. But, it was Sankata’s Goalkeeper who kept Sankata on the title hunt with making a host of saves to the advances of APF’s attack spear headed by Captain Ganesh Lawati.
Majority of the game was within the control of APF, but it’s inabliltiy to convert the goal scoring chances proved costly in the end. Ealier, APF had also lost against Sankata in Simara Gold Cup 2-1 in quarterfinals.
APF’s Ganesh Lawati was adjudged Player of the Tournament and he also received the Highest Scorer’s award with 3 goals to his name. Ganesh Lawati was awarded the prize by Honda Company’s representative Subash Acharya amidst the closing ceremony.
Also, Jamuna Gurung Nepalese Women’s team Captain was felicitated with a cash prize of NRs 50,000 at the occasion.
Five National Clubs and Five Foreign Clubs had participated in the day long tournament.
Sankata FC beats Sarswoti FC to set the tie with APF for the Birat Gold Cup.
It is a golden chance for the Sankata Club to end the trophy drought, as they have entered the final of any football tournament after 15 years.
What was a tense semi-finals clash between the two Kathmandu based team, the normal time was a dull affair as it ended goalless. The game seemed destined for penalites, but it took a differend turn when Sudip Limbu of Sankata scored the winning goal in the dying minutes of the extra- time. The goal came about in 118th minute with a great finish by the Sankat’s Sudip Limbu.
The final match will be played between APF and Sankata, on Tuesday 29th Falgun,2069.

APF with a chance to grab Birat Gold Cup after defeating AC Kolkata 4 – 0
APF now has a major chance to get hold of a trophy this season after they mauled AC Kolkata 4 – 0 here at Sahid Stadium, Biratnagar.
APF played the game with ease. In 28th minute APF took the lead thanks to a through ball by Santosh Shrestha which was taken well by APF captain Ganesh Lawati who put it past the back of the net to make it 1-0. The score line remained the same till half-time.
Deepak Khadka, a second half substitute for Arjun Subba passed it to Santosh Shrestha to make it 2 – 0 in the 70th minute. Nabin Lama who came on as a substitute for Shyam Nepali made it 3 – 0 for the departmental side in the 89th minute. The final goal of the game came in additional minutes when AC Kolkata was broken down in a counter attack when a great ball by APF’s Nabin Lama was controlled beautifully by Deepak Khadka to seal an emphatic victory against the visiting side.
APF’s Santosh Shrestha was adjudged man of the match. APF will either meet Sankata or Sarswati Club who are facing each other in the second semi-final match of Birat Gold Cup on Sunday.
